We are based in Lehi and we cover the Wasatch Front from Provo to Ogden, plus Park City over the ridge. That is roughly a 60 mile run along the I-15 corridor, and we drive it most days.
The reason there are twenty-eight pages below rather than one is that a roof in Park City and a roof in Taylorsville do not have the same problems. One is fighting deep snow at 7,000 feet. The other is fighting a hundred degree afternoon with no shade. Both end up with dried out shingles, but they get there by different routes and they show it in different places.

The corridor
Why the valley is not one climate
People talk about the Wasatch Front like it is a single place. Roofs disagree. There are three separate things pulling the oils out of asphalt shingles here, and which one is doing the damage depends on where your house sits.
- Heat, on the valley floor. Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory has measured dark roof surfaces running 69 to 78 degrees hotter than the surrounding air. On a 100 degree afternoon in West Valley or Taylorsville that puts your shingles north of 170.
- Freeze-thaw, everywhere. NOAA counts 74 cycles a year at Provo Airport and 69 in Salt Lake City. Every cycle is the roof expanding and contracting, and a shingle that has gone stiff cracks where a flexible one moves.
- Canyon wind, along the bench. Davis County is the worst of it. When the pressure builds east of the mountains the air comes down Farmington, Parrish and Bountiful canyons hard enough to strip shingles off roofs, and the ones that go first are always the ones that dried out.
That is the practical reason for city pages. If you are in Farmington, wind is your problem. If you are in Roy, sun is. If you are in Park City, it is snow sitting on the roof for months. The treatment is the same. What we are looking for when we walk the roof is not.
Utah County
Point of the Mountain down to Payson
This is home. Our base is in Lehi, so Utah County roofs are the ones we look at most, and the pattern here is a temperature swing rather than one single hazard. NOAA's engineering weather data puts Provo Airport at 74 freeze-thaw cycles in an average year, and summer does the other half of the work.
The exceptions are worth knowing. Traverse Mountain and the bench above Alpine take wind coming over the Point of the Mountain and down American Fork Canyon. Provo's northeast side catches the air pouring out of Provo Canyon. Down near the lake the wind eases off and heat takes over instead.

Bench cities, valley floor and everything between
Salt Lake County splits neatly in two, and the split matters. Along the east bench the canyons do the damage: Emigration, Parleys, Mill Creek, both Cottonwoods and Little Cottonwood above Sandy all drain cold air and wind onto the streets below them. Ice sits at the eaves longer there than three miles west.
Out on the valley floor and the west side there is nothing between the roof and the sun. West Valley, Taylorsville, West Jordan and Riverton roofs run hot from May through September with no canyon shade, and heat is what drives the oils out. NOAA counts 69 freeze-thaw cycles a year in Salt Lake City on top of that.

The Wasatch Front wind corridor
Davis County gets its own warning because the wind here is not ordinary weather. When the pressure difference builds east of the mountains, air comes down Farmington, Parrish, Mueller Park and Holbrook canyons hard enough to strip shingles off roofs, and it happens often enough that local homeowners plan for it.
What decides whether a roof comes through a Davis County wind event is whether its shingles can still move and reseal. A flexible shingle lies back down. A brittle one tears at the tab and lets go, and once one goes the wind gets underneath the next. That is the exact property that age takes away and that restoration puts back.

Ogden Valley down to the lake
Elevation is what splits Weber County. A roof in Roy and a roof above Pineview Reservoir do not age the same way at all. One dries out under open sun with no shelter at all. The other cycles through freeze and thaw dozens of times a winter.
Both end up in the same place, a shingle that has lost its flexibility, but they get there by different routes and they show it in different places. Ogden sits between the two, taking canyon wind from the east and sun from the west with little in between, and Ben Lomond holds snow late enough to keep the north slopes of those older roofs damp well into spring.

Park City is the hardest roof environment we work in, and it is the one place where two extremes hit the same roof. UV climbs with elevation, and the EPA puts the increase at about six percent per kilometer, so a Park City roof takes measurably more of it than a valley roof on the same afternoon.
That is the summer half. The winter half is heavier: deep snow sitting for months, then thawing and refreezing at the eaves. A shingle that has kept its flexibility handles that. A dried out one does not.

Lehi sits near the middle of the corridor on purpose. It is why a Provo roof and an Ogden roof both get looked at the same week.

We walk the roof, photograph every slope and send the report. Plenty of people get their inspection while they are at work.

The pages above are the places we work most, not a fence. What we will not do is book an appointment we cannot keep, so if you are genuinely outside the range we will tell you that on the phone rather than after you have taken a morning off.
Do you charge more for the far end of the corridor?
The price is driven by the roof, not the postcode. Size, pitch and how much repair work it needs are what move a quote.
We group jobs by area so the driving is efficient, which is part of why we can work the whole corridor from one base in Lehi.
Does the treatment work differently at altitude?
The product is the same. What changes is what the roof has been through before we get there.
A Park City roof at 7,000 feet has taken more UV and far more snow load than a roof in Murray of the same age, so it is often further along. That is a reason to have it looked at sooner, not a reason the treatment works less well. The inspection tells us which one you have.
